Let’s get ready

to RUMBLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLE.  yes, I am playing with Lux again.  Why can’t I leave it alone?  I already know it doesn’t like me *sigh* but again, I must try to make friends with it.  Again I tried with Luxus, and again, major issues.  I finally have figured out some lighting and camera stuff, so I am getting better results.  I am going back to playing with Reality though, because it was easier for me to play with materials, it just made more sense.  Right now a huge problem is textures.  I can do some awesome work with shaders, but they do not transfer well.  So now I have to find how to do them in either Reality or Luxus.  Which of these is going to be the easier medium to do this in.  Here are plus for each of them.

Luxus Good: melds itself into the Daz menus, no new menu to learn. Super easy to do shiny metal. Can make anything into a light super quick.

Luxus Bad: constant problems with hair, have a hard time with getting skin to look good, still cannot figure out how to get NO background in render

Reality Good: skin looks good, hair comes out really good, interface makes more sense, seems to not bog down my machine like Luxus does.

Reality Bad: working on materials is quite the learning experience, but luckily there are loads of info scattered about the internet.

First opinion-Genesis 2

Ok, so this is a quick opinion, out of the box, no reading anything quick start what I think of the new Genesis 2 figure.

I think I like it.  The problem with shoes from V4 is fixed.  Shoes fit wonderfully, the clothes form V4 fit wonderfully.  Gen2 is a dream to work with.  The only problem I have run into, and if I RTFM it may not be a problem, is setting older skins.  I’m finding I have to do it piece by piece, which is time consuming and annoying, as I can’t just double click on a skin set now and have it transfer over.  I have to set each one individually, for iris, pupil, hand, ear, etc, AND the bump, disp, spec, etc.  Must look deeper into that and see if there is a solution.

A little anxious now to see how she renders.  Only other bummer, we only have a female so far.  I want the male version, so I can start working on my characters, as well, they are all male, lol.

The Good, The Bad, and the Lux

So.. once again, it comes down to 3Delight or Lux.  Once again, I had to choose 3Delight.

Yes, Luxus/Lux has AMAZING materials, and Lux light is far superior in the fact that the lighting acts like real light.  While that is a plus, for some of my art, this is also a negative.  A lot of what I do requires the lights to be very unrealistic.  I use a lot of oversaturated colored lighting for my scenes.

Good point of Lux, you can make anything into a light.  Well, you can also do this in Daz with a bit of creativity.  You can apply an uber light volume to any surface.  The settings will be in the surfaces tab.  Make a glow texture to go along with it.. badabing, you have LEDs.  While the Lux ones are better, the Daz ones work when you simply must use 3Delight for reasons of shaders/lights etc.

I know, I’ve been back and forth on this a lot.  I’ll probably ramble about it again.  Basically the rule is…

1. if going for realism – use Luxus/Lux spend the time tweaking lights and materials, you will not be disappointed

2. if a fantasy render with lush coloring – use 3Delight (Daz) you can use unreal lighting and bump color settings however you wish

M5 Skins

Set of 3 skins. Drow, Demon and a Base to add your own colors to. The base comes with and without nipples, in case of creatures that do not have them 😀

Wraith Facial Morph

Morph slider containing the brow ridge and nose for Wraith (Stargate Atlantis).  Created with Daz3D and zBrush for Genesis figure.  Unsure if this works with Poser DSON as I do not have Poser to test it.
